Taking you behind the scene with a recent taken photo sharing a little bit of how I planned or view my shots. Planning your shot is not as complicated, you can literally shoot anywhere and make any location work. there's no such bad place to shoot, long as you frame your subject in a way to oversee any distractions and get comfortable of what you have to work with as far as location goes. In this photo we were in a alley way with graffiti a gate and partial garbage can it its view. The alley only 15ft wide or so, moved our model closest possible to us further away to from wall also taking that lens down to f/2.8 to help with blurring away of the detail of the background giving the subject in front of us more of that focused attention. I also took advantage of the sun shining down into the alley, pulled her away from the shadows and placed her in a way that it becomes a rim light to her hair and shoulders. So take calculations of your surroundings when planning your shots and try to vision it before shooting.
